Your Jewellery Care Guide

Our pieces are designed and made to last a lifetime and beyond. However, it’s important to treat your pieces with a bit of special care to keep them gleaming and looking their best! Here are some easy ways to care for your Anonoma jewellery.

  • All Anonoma silver pieces are hand crafted using .925 Sterling Silver. This is an alloy of silver with the standard 92.5% by mass of silver and 7.5% of other metals. The added metals add strength and durability to the Sterling Silver. Silver is the metal of the moon and reflects the soul, bringing clarity and healing.

Sterling silver will tarnish over time. Silver reacts to moisture and chemicals in the air such as sulphur (in the same way it can react to perfumes and lotions on our skin). It is a completely normal and natural reaction. We recommend removing your jewellery when applying body lotions, perfumes and creams. If you get any products on your jewellery, wash with a gentle dish soap and warm water. You can use an old, soft toothbrush to get in hard to reach areas.

Silver jewellery remains at its shiny best when worn daily or kept in a dry, air-tight box or bag. To clean any tarnishing, simply polish with the included Silver Cloth to regain a silver finish.

Regular use of a silver cloth removes light tarnish and inhibits re-tarnishing, prolonging the original sparkle of your silver. Chemicals like chlorine and salt can damage silver so avoid wearing while swimming or when in the shower. We recommend removing necklaces before sleeping and avoid storing in humid environments such as the bathroom.

Silver is a soft metal, so its best to remove jewellery while cleaning, using tools or in situations where rings are likely to get knocked against hard surfaces. Little knocks and scratches are just part of wearing and loving silver rings, bangles and bracelets (jewellery is for wearing and enjoying after all ), so we say embrace them!

  • Gold vermeil is sterling silver that has been gold plated with at least 2.5 microns of gold. As with sterling silver, preventive care is important for maintaining the pristine condition of your gold vermeil jewellery.

We do not guarantee that our gold vermeil jewellery will last forever. Gold plated pieces are, by default, liable to lose their colour over long periods of time. The speed at which the gold plating fades will depend on multiple variables from chemical products used for skincare to daily activity. For this reason, it is particularly important to take special care of your gold vermeil jewellery.

Remove gold vermeil jewellery before swimming, bathing or washing your hands with chemical soaps. Perfumes, creams and hairsprays can very occasionally have a negative effect, so always apply before putting on your jewellery. Always remove gold vermeil jewellery before sleep to prevent wear. As the old saying goes, "Jewellery should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off".

It's best to keep vermeil jewellery separate from other jewellery. Our 22ct gold vermeil is less likely to tarnish compared to that of a lower carat but we still recommend storing it in an airtight box or bag when not worn.

If you would like to clean your gold vermeil jewellery wash it with a small amount of gentle dish soap and warm water. Rinse it well and allow to dry on a cloth or paper towel. Use a soft, non-abrasive cloth or jewellery cloth and gently rub the surface in a circular motion to clean. Make sure it is fully dry before returning to its box or airtight bag for storage.

We guarantee the plating of all our jewellery for a period of 24 months after the original purchase date. If the gold plating has began to fade during this period for any reason, we will replace it for you at no extra charge. Please contact us to find out how to send your piece back to us.

After the 24 months, we will be delighted to re-plate your jewellery for a small fee.

Gold vermeil is a wonderful way to have great jewellery at a reasonable price, especially for large statement pieces, but if you want to enjoy your gold jewellery for years and years, without fear of fading or tarnishing, we recommend that you invest in solid gold (plating, no matter how good, will wear off if worn regularly). Solid gold will be a design you can enjoy for life, even generations. All of our designs can be made in 9 carat, 14 carat, 18 carat gold or platinum should you desire.

  • To clean your gold jewellery, wash it gently with warm, soapy water. Allow to dry and then buff with a soft dry cloth or gold polishing cloth.

For a deeper clean, an ultrasonic cleaner or a gold immersion bath or 'gold dip' may be used.
